The Christian Relief has launched a Christmas appeal for Dog Welfare Organizations to help as the charity is braced for a surge of abandoned and neglected animals as pet ownership soared during lockdown.
During the pandemic, pet ownership has surged with estimates of more than 3.2m people taking on new pets. With the return to work, the end of furlough and the worrying rise we are seeing in prices and energy bills as we get closer to Christmas, we fear the increased stress and pressures will see a rise in abandonment, neglect and even abuse of animals.
This year, like every year, many of our animal rescuers will be spending Christmas on the road, responding to every urgent call they can. Everyone at our animal centres will also be working hard to give every rescued animal the emergency treatment and loving care they need. For them, the best Christmas gift is knowing that another abandoned pet will be brought to safety. And other frightened wild animals will be given the urgent help they need. Your support is what keeps them going through the long, cold days.
This Christmas we’re asking you for your support so we can continue to change the lives of the rescue dogs by finding loving homes for each of them.
We believe every dog deserves a loving home for Christmas.
